Signs Of A Controlling Relationship You Should Be Wary Of

Another sign of a controlling relationship are partners with unusually short tempers who will lash out at you verbally and attempt to put you down, either when you are alone together or in the company of family or friends. They will often try to alienate you from your circle of close friends, and even your family, by telling you that they don’t really appreciate you or love you. They will try to destroy your self-confidence and make you feel that they are the only one you can turn to.

You need to honestly evaluate your relationship – are you better with him / her or without him / her? Does your family have concerns about your partner and the way you are treated? Are you constantly living in fear that you will do or say something to cause a violent outburst from your partner? Has your personality changed for the worse since you began this relationship? Are you no longer able to make your own decisions? Do you always have to do what your partner wants you to do? These are all signs of a controlling relationship and it’s time for you to move on as soon as possible.

Moving on may be difficult, especially if you have been in a controlling relationship for a long time. Sometimes, the ex-partner will resort to stalking you and trying to make your life a misery. If this happens, contact the police immediately and get a restraining order if necessary. Make sure that you have someone trustworthy with you at all times, and never let your controlling ex-partner into your home. Your ex-partner is most likely not dangerous, just angry and upset; but you shouldn’t take the chance that you might get physically hurt, especially if you have children.

These are just a few of the possible signs of a controlling relationship. If they apply to you, leave as soon as you are able – go and stay with family or a friend and end the relationship once and for all. Sever all ties with your controlling and abusive partner and get on with your life.
