Common Reasons For Divorce – Some Factors On Why Marriages Fail

What are some common reasons for divorce?

Once upon a time, the woman stayed home and cared for the family while the man went out into the work world to earn the living.

Today, the woman is in the work world as much as the man. A father is at home with the children every bit as often as the mother. The dependence of women on men is not as prevalent as it once was, and the new sense of freedom has changed the role of the woman in marriage. A desire to be independent has become very real to women on the opposite side of the divorce court.

While people dissolve marriages for the strangest reasons these days, there are some pretty common causes for couples to end a relationship. Possibly one of the most common is because one partner or the other does not feel appreciated. This happens often when the workload falls heavily on one of the parties and not the other.

Boredom is another of the common reasons for divorce. More and more relationships happen because of a sexual attraction rather than a mutual admiration for one another. When the sex begins to lose its excitement, boredom creeps in. The next thing you know, you are doing less together as a couple or more with other people. Under these circumstances, it is easy to find someone else – perhaps just an attraction with flirtation, or it could develop into infidelity.

Jealousy can also cause a relationship break-up. Whether it is warranted or not, feelings of betrayal can lead to possessiveness or the need to be in control of the relationship. It can lead to abusiveness and will definitely lead to distrust if positive measures are not taken. Relationships involving jealousy have trust issues that must be dealt with for a guaranteed happy future.

Any of the above reasons are common causes for a break up. Perhaps one or a combination of reasons coupled with nagging or a conflict in taste for one of the parties – especially as the relationship has been able to mature. It is not uncommon for people to grow apart as desires change when people get older.

What are other common reasons for divorce?

Addiction is becoming a more common challenge in a relationship. Alcohol or drugs cause a dependency to form between a person and the substance that leaves little room for anyone else. Relationships between younger people might begin with a substance involved, but as the parties mature or children become an issue in the relationship, there can be serious problems. Often, irreconcilable differences occur that couples cannot get past.

Abuse is more common in relationships than people care to believe, and is another of the common reasons for divorce. This can be between the couple or targeted toward the children a couple may have. Abuse begins for a number of reasons, but underlying causes are insecurity and a need to be in control. It can be physical or mental and start with disrespect of some type but escalade into violence.

Abusive relationships are characteristic of people who react to each other rather than act. They push buttons, become frustrated, and then angry. The formula never works as it requires the other to be the one to change first.

And that sums up some of the more common reasons for divorce. If you have more thoughts and ideas on some common reasons for divorce, do share them with us.
