You have to reestablish yourself as a single person and reconnect with friends and family who may have become estranged from you because of your relationship.
You’ll be going through a time of adjustment and self-assessment. Was it your fault? Were you too demanding? What will you learn from the experience? Are you emotionally and physically strong enough for coping with a break up?
This is where your friends and family come into the picture – they will all have lots of advice and opinions. Some will be good. Some will be of no use to you at all. Unfortunately, it’s up to you to decide which is which. Hopefully, your support group will be strong enough and wise enough to help you to get through the days and weeks ahead of coping with a break up.
Don’t be too self-critical. , The break up isn’t the end of the world, simply the end of one relationship. You don’t know what the future holds. Try to stay positive and concentrate on the good things in your life.
If you’ve been in a long-term relationship, you may have felt secure enough with your partner to open joint bank accounts or obtain credit cards together. You will need to take control of your finances as soon as possible by contacting every financial institution and remedying the situation by closing all joint accounts. Ideally, this should be done by you and your partner together so as to make it as painless as possible.
