The phone wakes me from my dreaming

I pick up, sleep crowding my words
You’re laughing and crying, how absurd
I ask you if everything’s all right
You say yes, in the middle of the night.

What did you call so late as it is
You say it’s me that you miss
I know now why you called

I was sitting at a diner eating lunch, alone
I though about you and wished you were at home
You would have laughed at what I had done
With the French Fry, and the nun

But I’m by myself, alone
And you’re not even home
Where could you be, you don’t answer your phone
Then I hear it ringing, your special tone

I turn around and you’re standing there
Laughing, running your hand through your hair
‘Miss me?’ you say as you grab a seat.
‘Have a French Fry,’ I say, thinking that was pretty neat.
