Pain can be a positive force as it often forces us to look in directions we might not on our own. It stares at us until we deal with it – till we get through denying it, wallowing in it and then taking it by the hand and walking with it.

Get the negatives out – I gave that company the best years of my life; or I spared her no expense; or I loved him completely, so you can move on. If you really have no one, find a club – the local Y for aerobics, do voluntary work at the local Salvation Army, etc. By serving others, you free yourself to the balm of healing – an important part of learning how to deal with rejection.
If the rejection involved some sort of advice, when things are calmed somewhat, see how you can draw from it. Say for instance, the advice came with a project you put together and it was rejected. Reread it with an optimistic outlook and your project will likely prosper for the better. You have allowed the rejection to become a learning experience – this is another big part of learning how to deal with rejection.
Don’t ever allow yourself the privilege of believing you have reach perfection. That way, there will always be room for improvement – whether it is a position you are vying for or hanging onto the one you believe holds the world in order. Rejection, actually, keeps us in check, so to speak. It has a way of sharpening our perspective on things, including life itself. It keeps us grounded and painfully aware that our own ideas about things are not always right. Because of rejection, we can grow – when we accept and internalize this, we will be in a better position to master how to deal with rejection.
