Self Esteem Exercises To Help Boost Your Self Image
|
Everyone has days when they look in the mirror and don’t like a thing they see. This is common; however, when you find that you are having more of those days than not, you may be suffering from low self esteem.
So, what do you do when you find yourself in a funk? Here are some self esteem exercises that are guaranteed to help you boost your self image and sense of self worth.
First, don’t underestimate the power of physical exercise. When we engage in physical activity, our bodies release endorphins which are proven to improve mood. Physical exercise gives your body a chance to move, grow, and purge toxins while releasing these happy chemicals into your bloodstream. Exercise also improves circulation, which allows more oxygen to enter the brain (making it much more efficient and capable of handling situations in a healthier manner).
In addition, if part of your self esteem issues stems from your physical appearance, daily exercise can help you lose weight and tone up, giving you a much healthier, more attractive body, thereby improving your self-image. If you have been inactive for quite some time, a walking program is a great way to ease into a daily exercise routine. Find an activity that you will enjoy to use as a self esteem exercise. Also, it’s good to mix up your routine from time to time so you won’t get bored with it (and this will help work muscle groups at different intervals, keeping you from being stopped at plateaus).
Next self esteem exercise, is to try to fill your day with affirmations that will help remind you that you are worth a great deal. There are many ways you can do this. First, you can put a poster board up in your bedroom or office (any place that you spend a great deal of time is the ideal spot). On this board, post things that make you happy and remind you of your worth.
For example, if you get a certificate or greeting card, post it on the board. That way, when you are having one of those days when you doubt your worth, you can look at your accomplishment board. Get a “thought for the day” calendar which includes affirmations. This is a great way to remind yourself of the things that are good in your life.
