Simple Tips For Organizing Clutter And Simplifying Your Life

Do you need some help with organizing clutter?

Are you so overwhelmed by clutter that you don’t know where to begin to sort it all out? Are you afraid that if you do go through it all and throw things away you will find that you needed something you disposed of?

What if you donate that expensive skirt that’s a little too tight to Goodwill, and then lose the 5lbs that were preventing you from wearing it? What if you go through your files and shred the receipt you need to return something you bought?

The fear of getting rid of something you will eventually need is preventing you from organizing your clutter.

You can’t stand looking at your crowded closet any longer – your clothes are all so creased up with being jammed in together that you have to iron them before you can wear them. You will just have to bite the bullet and go through everything – and I mean everything!

Begin by taking a section at a time (begin with tops and sweaters or jackets) and lay them on your bed. If you know something no longer fits you, put it in a pile for donation. If it’s past its prime, throw it out. If it still looks good and goes with other items in your closet, put it in the “keep” pile. There are some items that you simply must keep for sentimental reasons, but limit them to just a few.

If you do this exercise of organizing clutter once a year, you will find that you will have tons of closet space – just don’t feel that you have to fill in the spaces by buying new clothes! The golden rule is that if you haven’t worn it for a year, then out it goes; the exceptions to the rule are perhaps dressy clothes for special occasions which you know you will wear again – as long as they still fit you. The same goes for shoes.

Handbags – see above!

The same rules for organizing clutter apply to your dresser drawers – underwear does not last forever so toss out the old stuff that’s lurking in the bottom of the drawer. You’d probably forgotten it was there, anyway.
